Serf Associates was formed in 1977 with the promotion of its first line, Custom Fabricators, a fabricator of operating vents and curtain walls. Since then, Serf Associates has become the representative for other companies. You will notice that the product lines we represent fall into one of three market segments. These three segments are the glass/glazing industry, the interior systems market, and the sealants/adhesive market. Our approach to each segment, while interconnected, is to market individually into each of the three distinct segments.
The glass and glazing business is our core business, and has been since the beginning. Most of our emphasis has been on those glazing contractors that serve the commercial and institutional markets.
The interior systems portion of our company grew out of our Alumax interior aluminum door frame business. When Alumax decided to stop selling prefabricated frames to the market several years ago, Serf Associates began manufacturing and selling its own frame locally and nationwide based on the Alumax system.
In 1994, Serf Associates became a distributor of Alumax Bath Enclosures. We purchased a Warehouse/Office building in Frankfort, IL to give us the space needed to be a stocking distributor of bath enclosures. We now run regular delivery routes throughout Northern Illinois and Northwest Indiana. Recently, we have added CR Laurence Heavy Glass Bath Enclosure Hardware, Portals Heavy Glass Bath Enclosure Hardware, and Gunther Mirror-Mastics to our line.
The sealants and adhesives' segment started in 1980 when Serf Associates became representatives for PTI Sealants, manufacturers of organic architectural sealants and automotive adhesives and sealants. Serf Associates has since become representatives for GE Silicones. With this manufacturer, we have established a solid and diverse base for sealant sales in the Glazing/Construction, OEM Window, Insulated Glass, and Automotive Replacement Glass market. The bulk of the growth we achieved has come from supplying superior customer service and technical support.
Since its creation, Serf Associates has continued to grow in size, personnel, and most important, market penetration. We now have relationships at the major architectural firms, glazing contractors, sealant distributors, curtainwall fabricators, window manufacturers, skylight manufacturers, general contractors, interior contractors, waterproofers, and automotive glass installers in our territory.
Mark Formentini, Michael Boese and John Formentini perform most of the outside sales activities. In addition, we have an inside staff of three, and our customers appreciate the fact that they can always reach someone to instantly address and service their needs.
Our philosophy has always been to emphasize our outstanding customer service and technical support. It is these abilities that we believe have contributed to our success. We know that our people have to be more helpful, more capable, and harder working in order to grow your product line against its competitors. That is the reason customer service is our highest priority. We also know that the best way to get the order and prove our customer support is unequaled is by offering the best technical support available. Lastly, our customers know that their problems are our problems, and we have found it is through problem resolution that some of our strongest relationships are built.
The majority of Serf Associates sales efforts are concentrated in Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Some marketing is done beyond this area, and we will forward details out upon request.
